Today I offer you simple advice. Take a few minutes right now and think about your life. No, don’t just scroll down or leave the page. Really, take just a few minutes and imagine the life that you would want, ideally. It’s nice, isn’t it? This is it. This is the purpose of life.
Hidden Meanings
“Sudden Unexpected Twist”
It fascinates me how words are wrapped inside words. Letters can be rearranged to produce ideas. You probably realize this. You have the most marvelous word in the middle of your title and web address: EXPECT! In my blog, The Daily Difference, I have Diff, which suggested the address, ddiff.com Simple to remember. In fact, it may be a better title, longterm.
Your blog title also carries key advice! The sort of advice which can drive you subconsciously. On the surface, it suggests a good ending, to a story. Thus, worthwhile. That ‘twist’ which astonishes. But, a twist can be at any point. Certainly not limited to one. Walking through a maze in a chocolate factory would provide many unexpected twists. (Each, I suspect, acceptable to you.)
So your inner advice is this. Though maybe you do not follow it often enough. “Sudden”! A stroll to success rarely works and does not satisfy. We need a sudden switch. One second we think the old way. The next, by choice, we are different. I remember years ago, Leo Buscaglia, who ran a university course on Love. Insane at the time. Wisdom today. A student remonstrated with him that his advice was now different! He had said something different on Thursday. He replied: “But, I am a different person today!” We can change in an instant, if we have to. If we want to.
At this point, a temporary depressive will insist that is quite untrue! But, if the reason is big enough, we can change like lightning. If the Queen walked in your room, you would change. You would not say that change takes time. That you are steadily getting there. Hopefully, soon. (I think.) “Sudden” is a command to the brain, an electro-chemical switch that is faster than comprehension. Indeed, it can be well in front of it!
“Unexpected”! What a lovely word! It does not mean mindless. It is best when it is considered. I have a rule that whenever I have a sudden impulse to do anything (Go now! Do it instantly! Change the programme [English spelling. We say North Americans haven't spoken English for years, let alone spelled it! Oh, dear! My sense of humour. Pretend you have not read that! It was written in invisible ink. Forget it!]….Now I have this, ), to worry about. I never completed the sentence! I have a spare bracket! Where do I put it now? See, sometimes we English get confused. But, less than other people, of course! As you are a perfectionist, dear reader, I give you two brackets- )), in compensation!
What was I saying before you interrupted? Ah, yes. Very important. Thank-you for reminding me! If I have a really sudden impulse, I say, “That’s from the Enemy!” (Because, if peace guides you, the mindless leap into the unknown removes that peace.)
“Unexpected” is delicious when put together as a unique meal. Throwing potatoes, some cabbage, and so on, together on a plate, and giving yourself a knife and fork, certainly is unexpected, but not likely to delight the tastebuds.
“Twist”! Now that is something really lovely! The touch of independent genius.
Taken together, “Sudden Unexpected Twist” means more than is, at first, apparent! It is something delivered from the soul after much (often frustrating) thought and creative, deep sleep. It is a kind of digital fingerprint.
Each brain can deliver the equivalent.
Hi Alastair, what a nice decipher of my title. You know, I agree with pretty much everything you said except one thing. I think that impulse is rather good. I mean, a bit of impulse. Life, largely, is based on routine. We get up in the morning and we pretty much go about our day in the same manner – we eat at the same times, most of us have set hours of work. This get tiring after a while. Impulse is that which allows us to break away from routine. It is also that which brings some of the best thrills of our life. Yes, impulse can also lead to danger and hurt, but what’s life if you don’t live a little on the edge?
Love this!
Hi Jaime, thanks for the comment!
