What’s the next best thing to waking up on a bright sunny day? Waking up really early on a very cold, grey and rainy day of course! Am I crazy? Perhaps. However, a nice hot cup of your beverage of choice (especially in a pretty mug)– mine is tea – a book or a project that you’ve been working on in front of you plus the rain outside can be inspiring.
Unless you live in the UK, you will most likely have more days without rain than with rain. Most people however, even though rain is not the usual plan for the days of the year, get very grumpy when their day is ruined by the wetness. How about we turn grumpy into happy? Rain is great. Besides the obvious benefits of rain such as growth of nature und so weiter, rain can also be a great stage for some fun. Have you ever kissed in the rain? There is something terribly romantic about a kiss in the rain. That’s one example, but not everyone has a significant other that they can kiss every time it rains. So how about some things that can be done solo?
§ if it’s warm outside, put on a dress (if you’re a female) or some shorts (if you’re a male) and go outside barefoot. Perhaps the first few minutes it’ll be a little awkward (especially if you’ve never done this before) and you won’t know what to do. I suggest you just walk. After a while you will see how lovely the wet ground beneath you feels, and I hope this is when you start doing a few jumps here and there. Maybe even a cartwheel. Or simply some sprints making sure you don’t miss the big puddles. If you find that people are staring at you, realize that they’re just jealous. They’re not having as much fun as you are under their umbrella and their rain boots.
§ if it’s warm outside, take your bike and ride as fast as you can. The droplets on your face will be ever so refreshing. And if it’s lightning, bike riding is better to do than walking, the rubber of your tires will protect you.
§ if it’s a cold fall rain, I hope you have a couch, a bed or a chair near a window. Open the window slightly to hear the lovely soothing sound of the rain. Go make yourself a hot chocolate, a cup of tea or whatever you desire. Wrap yourself in your favorite blanket. Read a book. Sketch. Write. Or simply, stare out the window and enjoy.
§ if it’s thundering, light some candles, open the window slighty and bring your man, woman or toy to bed. I promise it’ll be sweaty. Not to mention that what you do in the bed will make you feel much better, especially if you have a headache.
§ listen to some powerful music – especially if it’s thundering. You’ll want to listen to such music as Dolphins Cry by Live, or some really good Lounge music such as the ones by Putumayo. The combination of music and lightning will be fantastic.
§ if you’re at the beach and a shower comes along, don’t run for cover. Go back in the ocean/lake/sea and float on your back. It’s wonderful.
§ do you have a dog? Take the dog for a walk. Let him/her enjoy the rain as well. And, as long as he/she doesn’t go into piles of mud, it’ll almost be like a bath. Run after him/her (or vice versa), play with a stick. Don’t worry about getting dirty.
Those are just a few ideas – the ones I love the most. I’m sure you could come up with many more. Whatever you do, the next time it rains, try one of the above out, and I guarantee you will find at least one fun and exciting. Then, when the rain starts again some days later, who knows – you might even be excited! You’re allowed to get grumpy again if rain persists for more than 3-4 days.
